Description
Yesterday’s partial eclipse of the sun, total in certain areas of Siberia, was observed in many parts of Britain. Shortly after 11.00 a.m. the skies over London cleared sufficiently for a view of the sun’s disc one-third obscured by the Moon. Members of the Juniors Astronomical of them were that of Ian B. air, 17, of Greenway School, Uxbridge, and 48in focal length. With it he could project an image of the sun 6in diameter on to a small screen. Mr. Ian Rid path, editor of the society’s journal, pointed to the screen and said: “On this excellent view the rugged mountains of the Moon can be in silhouette, as well as the sunspots. PHOTO SHOWS: - IAN BLAIR (left) and MR. IAN RIDPATH, examining the image of the eclipse through Ian’s homemade telescope.
