Description
The new 29,500 ton P. & O. liner IBERIA moved out majestically towards the River Themes estuary on her maiden voyage to Australia yesterday. She cost $6,000,000 and carries 1,400 passengers. The first vessel ordered by the Peninsula Company in 1837 had the same name, but her cost was $22,000. PHOTO SHOWS: A ferry-boat siren hoots a salute as the IBERIA sails towards the Thames estuary on her maiden voyage to Australia. Note the funnel, designed to throw smoke clear of the decks.
