Description
In the province of Zeeland in the South of the Netherlands, where in 1953 the whole country was flooded by the bursting of the dykes - work is now in progress on the construction of the gigantic Delta Project. In the “Haringvliet” (the river mouth of the Rhine) a building island has been constructed. An enormous tower crane - the largest in Europe - meaning 75m. Long and 40m. High is being employed to raise the huge triangles forming the span. There will be seventeen spans with 400 triangles, on the base of which cars will drive. On the other side of the cement triangles the arms of the heavy look gates will be placed. In 1968, through 17 openings of the sluices - the superfluous water of the Haringvliet can be dispersed. Roadways will be built over the sluices. KEYSTONE PHOTO SHOWS:- View of the huge crane and cement supports of the sluices - at the Delta Project - South Netherlands.
