Description
Today was the first day of the British Safety Council’s four day paint-in and the start of the painting of The World’s Longest Safety Poster. Over the four day period, 360 children from all over the British Isles will converge on London’s Jubilee Gardens to illustrate their safety ideas on the longest porter over painted. When completed the porter will measure 800ft by 10ft and will be eligible for the Guinness Book of Records. The poster is the British Safety Council’s contribution to the International year of the Chile. PHOTO SHOWS: A general view as works starts on the World’s Longest Safety Poster in Jubilee Gardens today.

I have been looking for this for years! As I recall each team had a year to find a safety law for and mine was 1907-1908 - where a law was passed that required vehicles to be parked with a lamp attached at night - Park with a Light at night! I met Ernie Wise, Joe Loss the band leader - and yes there was music too - I recall a steel drum band. Wow, what memories indeed.

I had been searching around for this and it seems at last someone has uploaded this pic. I was there on that day. I remember music, for some reason my memory retains Simon and Garfunkel and I remember an actor from the TV series "All Creatures Great & Small" My group painted a man in a mine holding up a lamp towards the middle of the poster.
