FRAU LUCIE ROMMEL - widow of the German war leader FIELD MARSHAL ROMMEL - who is on a visit to Egypt - made a desert pilgrimage to EL ALAMEIN - the scene of her husband’s great disaster. She placed a wreath on the tomb of the Africa Corps - and then to “show there is no bitterness” she drove on across the desert to the British cemetery. There were no Britons present when she arrived with the escorting Egyptian officers. KEYSTONE PHOTO SHOWS:- FRAU ROMMEL places a crown of flowers on the tomb in memory of the AFRICA CORPS during her visit to El Alamein.

Wonderful gesture from the widow of Germany's most celebrated World War 2 military commander. The date of her visit should be mentioned in the description. Rommel's widow always cherished her late husband's memory - she always referred to him in later years as " Mein Mann ",i.e. My Man. She also handed over Rommel's annotated copy of " Generals and Generalship " either to General Sir Archibald Wavell or his widow, Lady Queenie Wavell (since Wavell passed away in 1950) during her visit to England after World War 2.
