Sailing down the English Channel from London to Plymouth, the starting port of his momentous round-the-world solo voyage, Francis Chichester is pictured in the bow of his ketch Gipsy Moth IV. Also painted on the bow of his boat are two wool mark lucky “eyes”. Throughout the 28,500 mile voyage during which Sydney will be her only port of call, Gipsy Moth will act as a “floating test-bed” for wool products.
